Candle lamps come in two main varieties: electric "warmers" that melt wax using a bulb, and traditional lanterns that house a burning candle. Follow these instructions for safe and effective use in 2026.
1. Electric Candle Warmer Lamps
These lamps use a halogen bulb to melt wax from the top down, releasing fragrance without an open flame.
Installation: Align the bulb (usually a 50W GU10) with the socket, press up, and twist clockwise to lock it.
Positioning: Place a jar candle on the base directly under the bulb. Some models have adjustable heights; ensure the bulb is 3–5 cm (1–2 inches) above the wax for optimal melting.
Settings: Use the dimmer switch to control scent intensity; higher brightness melts wax faster and creates a stronger scent "throw".
Wax Maintenance: Unlike burning, the wax in a warmer does not evaporate. After several uses, the top layer will lose its scent. Carefully pour off the liquid wax or soak it up with cotton balls to expose fresh, scented wax beneath.
2. Traditional Candle Lanterns
These are protective enclosures for real flame candles.
Lighting: Many lanterns have a sliding glass chimney. Slide the glass down, light the wick, and pull the glass back up to lock it. Alternatively, remove the bottom base to light the candle before re-inserting it.
Wick Care: Trim the wick to 1 cm (1/4 inch) before lighting to prevent soot buildup on the glass.
Extinguishing: Use a candle snuffer or replace the lantern's solid cap (if applicable) to avoid splattering wax or creating excess smoke.
3. Safety & Maintenance Tips
The 4-Hour Rule: Do not leave lamps or candles on for more than 4 hours at a time to prevent overheating or "mushrooming" wicks.
No Water: Never use water to extinguish a candle flame; use a damp cloth only if it flares up.
Placement: Keep all lamps on stable, heat-resistant surfaces away from drafts, flammable materials, children, and pets.
Voltage Check: For electric models, ensure your outlet voltage matches the lamp's requirements (typically 110V-220V) to avoid shortening the bulb's lifespan
