There's something magical about lighting a new candle — the soft flicker, the scent, the atmosphere. But if you want to get the most value (and beauty) from your candle, a little care goes a long way. Here’s how to treat your Wick and Wattle candle right.

🔥 1. First Burn = Full Burn
The first time you light your candle, let it burn long enough for the entire top layer of wax to melt all the way to the edge. This prevents tunnelling, where the candle burns straight down and wastes wax.
Pro tip: For most candles, this takes 1–2 hours.
✂️ 2. Trim Your Wick
Before each burn, trim your wick to 5mm. This keeps the flame controlled, reduces soot, and helps your candle burn evenly.
No wick trimmer? Use scissors or gently pinch off the charred tip with fingers once cooled.
⏳ 3. Don’t Overburn
We get it — sometimes you want to keep the vibe going. But burning your candle for more than 4 hours at a time can cause the wick to shift or mushroom, affecting performance.
💨 4. Keep It Draft-Free
Burn your candle away from open windows, fans, or air-con vents. A steady flame means even melting and better scent throw.
🧼 5. Safety & Storage
Always burn on a heat-safe surface.
Keep out of reach of children and pets.
Store in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight to preserve scent and colour.
🌿 Why Candle Care Matters
A well-maintained candle doesn’t just last longer — it smells better, burns more safely, and brings out the full beauty of your Wick and Wattle product. Treat your candles like the handmade, small-batch luxuries they are — because they are.
